I can’t get no Job Satisfaction

by admin on March 5, 2009

I ‘ve been thinking about job satisfaction and what things make a job satisfying. I figured I could come up with a list and publish it  as part of a post and make myself  famous. The only problem is I can’t  really come up with a  list that feels right.

It could be that I’ve  never had a satisfying  job or  it could be that I don’t look for a job to be satisfying. I’ve always believed   that if it was fun they might  figure they don’t  have to pay me to do it and jobs are just trading time and effort for money and perquisites aka as perks. Maybe it ‘s not the most productive way to think but i has allowed me to  do work that others would have found to be boring or beneath them and still be happy. There is honor in doing any job well.

(Just for the record, no job is beneath anyone and your job doesn’t  make you better than anyone else. Don’t be the kind of schmuck  that looks down on people  just because of the  jobs they do to support their family.)

So I’ve had fun days at work and had fun projects at work but  I don’t think  I’ve had a job that was just fun to do.  Maybe that will change  when i start my own business.

So here is my list so far

money- enough to pay the bills and to save for a rainy day and retirement

medical insurance

Vacation and sick leave

Whatever else I can get

A smart  boss- no micro management please.

smart co-workers – do their share and a little more, talented enough I can learn from them

a window- I don’t have one now but it is an excuse to take a walk  each day

That’s what i have right now.

what’s on your list?
